Leonel Pinheiro was born in Braga, Portugal.

During 2023/24 Season, he will perform the following roles at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon: Prince Yamadori Madama Butterfly, Dr. Blind Die Fledermaus, Camille de Rosillon Die Lustige Witwe, Jaquino Fidelio, Bardolfo Falstaff

Recent/current engagements include Don Jose in Carmen at Operafest in Lisbon, Beethoven Missa Solemnise, Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle(Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra), , Prologue/Peter Quint in The Turn of the Screw also at Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon, Opera Gala at Varna State Opera with the Varna State Opera Symphony Orchestra.

Leonel completed his Degree in Music at University of Aveiro under the tuition of António Salgado and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Concert Singing at Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama with Peter Alexander Wilson. 

Leonel graduated with distinction from the Opera Course at Guildhall School of Music & Drama where he studied with Susan McCulloch. His full scholarship was kindly supported by the Worshipful Company of Saddlers, the Roseberry Scholarship, the Blanch Gertrude Lynch Memorial Scholarship and the Music Students' Hostel Trust.

Through his Guildhall Artist Fellowship, Leonel was a guest teacher of singing at City University of London and a Learning Repertoire Coach at Guildhall School of Music & Drama. 

Enagements include: Don José Carmen (Mid Wales Opera, Deloite Ignite Festival at the Royal Opera House), Macduff, cover Macbeth (Scottish Opera), Turidu Cavalleria Rusticana (Coliseu Micaelense, Azores, Portugal), Cavaradossi Tosca (Charles Court Opera/Musique Cordiale Festival in Provence, Regents Opera/Wimbledon International Music Festival), Lucio Otello (Buxton Festival Opera), Alfredo La Traviata (European Chamber Opera/Bangkok Grand Opera, Bermuda Festival/Regents Opera), Gherardo Gianni Schicchi (Opera Holland Park Christine Colllins Young Artists), Luigi Il Tabarro, Samson Samson et Dalila (Grimeborn Opera Festival).

Leonel has been a regular at the Wexford Festival Opera, there he has sung Kozak Maria, Showman A Village Romeo and Juliet Achille di Rosalba/Felice Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze, Gastone La Traviata.

Oratorio/Concert highlights include: Royal Festival Hall debut as the tenor soloist in Mozart's Requiem alongside the English Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Chorus, Mahler Das Lied von der Erde (Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa at Centro Cultural de Belém in Lisbon), Verdi’s Requiem, Handel's Messiah, José Maria Vitier's Misa Cubana, Orff's Carmina Burana, Charpentier's Te Deum and Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle.
